GUINEA UNDER MILITARY RULE

In early 2024, Guinea was governed by a military junta, amid rising living costs and growing public frustration. A repressive political climate and economic hardship created fertile ground for social unrest and mobilisation.

THREE DAYS OF NATIONAL PARALYSIS

In February 2024, thirteen national trade unions coordinated a general strike to demand the release of a jailed union leader: Sékou Jamal Pendessa. The country was largely shut down for three days, ending only after the government yielded to pressure.
